How I Use VS Code As My Personal Knowledge Management System At Work

This post explains in detail how I set up VS Code to act as my main knowledge management system to track meetings, knowledge, ideas, people and todos.

Why VS Code

You may ask yourself why to choose VS Code over other dedicated tools like Obsidian or Logseq. Even though these are objectively better at building personal knowledge management (PKM) systems, it often is not allowed to use external software like this in a corporate environment (even though it’s basically just text files - but cyber security reasons may prevent even those local-only tools).

So we just have to accept that fact and move on. To tackle this problem, you have to look which software is available and allowed to be used in the company you work at. As VS Code is one of the standard tools for programmers (and also from Microsoft, the corporates darling), more often than not it is a whitelisted software which is free to use.
