Ctrl+V: Stuff Worth Sharing #004

This week’s episode of SWS contains the .NET 9 announcement, the journey of Stack Overflow going to the cloud, the Syntax.fm holiday gift guide and the rapid journey of Bluesky gaining millions of users.

πŸ“„ .NET 9 Announcement

This week Microsoft announced the long awaited ninth version of their .NET framework. As a C# developer, the announcement post is always an interesting read.

One of the main feature is the global improvement of the performance of .NET apps. Besides that they improved .NET Aspire, which is a toolkit for building, testing and deploying apps directly to the cloud.

Microsoft also improved their AI capabilities (of course) and showed the newest improvements in Blazor and C#.

πŸ“„ Stack Overflow goes to the cloud

After already moving SO for Teams in the cloud (to Microsoft Azure), they now continue with their main application in a project named Ascension. Even though they know a transfer to the cloud does not necessarily save money, they still see all the benefits in not needing to handle hardware problems by themselves as they are a full remote company.

An interesting decision is choosing Microsoft Azure for SO Teams and Google Cloud for the SO public platform. They are now performing the integration site by site, starting with small ones and avoiding one single big bang integration.

🎧 Syntax Holiday Gift Guide

One of my favourite programming themed podcasts Syntax.fm just had their Holiday Gift Guide episode. From technology over software to body wash many potential gift ideas were suggested. There are also dedicated sections for kids gifts and kitchen gifts. And like always, Scott and Wes make it a funny podcast to listen to.

πŸ“„ 1 million user signups in 24 hours for Bluesky

The social media network Bluesky, which once was a research initiative at Twitter, got one million user signups in 24 hours. This led me to create my own Bluesky account, I really enjoy the network until now.

Thank you for reading that far. I hope you’ve liked the content and find it useful. If that’s the case, please consider sharing it.
