SWS #010: Reading, Coffee, Things 3 and other Stuff Worth Sharing

This is my weekly newsletter Stuff Worth Sharing where I share with you some great content I found in the world wide web. I hope you enjoy it.

This week was an exciting one. I’ve written a post about Amazon’s 1997 Letter to Shareholders, and it was my most viewed one on Substack with over 50 views. Thank you, everybody!

I went all in on Substack Notes and I think this makes a difference as my general views went up. It is also really nice to interact with such a supportive community as it is the case on Substack.

As I’m currently trying out different things with my posts, this episode of Stuff Worth Sharing will be a little different. In my previous episodes I often included in-detail summaries of different articles I enjoyed reading. I think, this was too much, as the links were not clicked and the posts itself did not get many views. So I now try to shake things up a little.

But the main concept stays the same: I will share interesting content I encountered during the week and share it with you.

I will start with a shameless plug for the aforementioned post. Amazon’s 1997 Letter: A Blueprint for Long-Term Business Growth. Reading this letter was very inspiring, knowing that this started Amazon’s success story to the market-leading position it is today.

Another post I stumbled upon on Substack was My Lifetime Reading Plan by Ted Gioia. In it, he described how he approached reading during his life and which benefits it brought to him. Reading helped him learn topics in detail to a level that he was able to discuss them with university professors. Very inspiring read which led me to add some book classics to my to-read-list.

A friend of mine sent me a video which got me genuinely interested due to my addiction for coffee as well as technology: Ultimate Budget Espresso Machine: The Gaggiuino UPDATED- $500 Machine, $5000 Capabilities. This hack shows the Gaggiuino, a Gaggia coffee maker with added professional abilities through automation via a modified Arduino. If I have some time left (which will likely be never) I will try it out for myself. Currently, I’m pleased with my Hario filter coffee setup.

Things 3. I just love this app. After an endless todo-app journey from TickTick over Todoist to OmniFocus and many other apps in between, I recently moved all of my tasks once again. This time to Things. And it feels great. It has most of the features I need (including start AND due dates) while keeping everything simple. The only main thing I miss are the “forced” reviews of projects like OmniFocus has it. Those helped me very much on keeping an overview over all projects in a weekly manner. Now I’ve to force myself to manually look into them. I think my to-do app journey deserves a post for itself sometime in the future.

That’s it for this week’s episode of SWS — Stuff Worth Sharing. I hope you enjoyed it. On a different note: I’m currently writing this post on my iPhone, which I released from its case. It is such a great piece of hardware without that piece of plastic wrapped around it. All of those edges feel like a charm. But enough for today, I won’t bother you anymore with my blabbering!
